HICKORY, N.C. -- The Hickory Crawdads scored seven of their eight runs in the first three innings Friday night to cruise past the Augusta GreenJackets 8-1 in South Atlantic League baseball.
It was the second straight for Hickory victory to open the season. The Crawdads topped the GreenJackets 8-5 in Thursday night's season opener.
In the first two innings, Augusta pitcher Dennis Tankersley got two outs before Hickory posted runs on the scoreboard.
With two outs in the first inning, JR House slammed a home run over the left-field fence for a 1-0 Hickory lead.
In the second inning, again with two outs, the Crawdads scored on a Deivi Perez single to right, a GreenJackets error and a two-run double to right field by Josh Bonifay. House got his second RBI when he singled home Bonifay.
Hickory right-hander Luis Torres got the win, giving up five hits and a run in six innings of work.
The season-opening series continues tonight with Anastacio Martinez getting the starting call for the GreenJackets to face Bobby Bradley at 7:05 p.m. The four-game series concludes Sunday at 2:05 p.m. before the Jackets move to Charleston, S.C., for a four-game series. Augusta's home opener is Friday against Savannah.
