Lynx rally for win over Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Lynx scored another huge win over the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks. And when it was over, they also heaved a huge sigh of relief.

After blowing a four-goal lead, the Lynx held off a late rally by Tallahassee to win 4-3 Friday night to take another big step in the hunt for a playoff berth.

Making his 20th straight start, goalie Judd Lambert again delivered, stopping 43 of 46 shots for the victory, Augusta's 11th win in its past 15 games.

Andrei Chouroupov, Jonas Soling, Louis Dumont and Sandy Lamarre scored the goals for the Lynx (26-28-3), who entered the game five points out of the 11th and final playoff berth in the Southern Conference.

The win also moved the Lynx past Tallahassee (24-28-6) into fifth place in the Southeast Division, heading into tonight's game at home with third-place Pee Dee.

Chouroupov opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, his 16th of the season, at the 2:50 mark of the opening period, and the Lynx held a 1-0 lead after one period despite being outshot 17-10.

They then blew it open midway through the second period, netting three goals in a span of 2:58.

After Lamarre made it 2-0 at 9:02 with his 14th goal, Dumont followed 1:15 later with his 19th goal of the year to make it 3-0. Soling the finished off the barrage at the 12:00 mark with his 19th goal to give the Lynx a 4-0 lead.

For the second straight game, Lambert lost a shutout bid early in the third period despite playing brilliantly.

Tallahassee got on the board at 5:40 of the final period when Olivier Morin scored his team-leading 23rd goal of the season on a breakaway.

Things got a bit tenuous for the Lynx at the midway point of the period, when a goal by Chad Hinz cut the Tiger Sharks' deficit to two.

It was a one-goal game with on Hinz' second goal of the period with 2:21 remaining, but the Sharks' furious rally fell just short, as Lambert held on for the victory, improving his record to 19-20-3.

Augusta also held off the Tiger Sharks' power play, killing off all nine penalties.
