ESTERO, Fla. -- The Augusta Lynx again came up empty against the best the ECHL has to offer, suffering a 4-1 loss to the Florida Everblades on Saturday before a sellout crowd at TECO Arena, the 16th straight at the second-year facility.
The Southeast Division-leading Everblades (39-10-2) led 3-0 heading into the third period and were able to hold off the Lynx (20-27-3) for the second straight night.
Augusta had its five-game winning streak snapped Friday night with a 4-2 loss to the Everblades in the opener of the weekend series.
Matt Demarski, Jason Morgan and Tom Buckley scored -- the first and third goals coming on the power play -- to give the Everblades a 3-0 leading heading into the third period before Jonas Soling scored for the Lynx, spoiling Florida goalie Mark Magliarditi's bid for a shutout.
Any ideas the Lynx had about a comeback ended in the final minute when Demarski scored his second of the night to seal the win for the Everblades, who went 4-1-1 against Augusta this season.
Lynx goaltender Judd Lambert (37 saves) had another strong performance in the net, but was saddled with the loss for the second straight night.
Demarski opened the scoring for Florida at the 6:52 mark of the first period, and the Everblades led 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Morgan made it 2-0 at the 5:54 mark of the second, and Buckley's goal with 36 seconds remaining in the period gave Florida a 3-0 lead and some breathing room heading into the final 20 minutes.
Soling cut the deficit to 3-1 at the 4:13 mark, but Demarski scored his second of the night and fourth in two games into an empty net with 57 seconds to play to seal the deal.
The Lynx are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Greensboro to face the Generals, then return to the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center on Friday to face the Greenville Grrrowl.
