BOSTON -- Krys Kolanos had a hat trick and Scott Clemmensen tied a 75-year-old school record with his eighth career shutout Monday night as Boston College beat Northeastern 6-0 in the Beanpot semifinals.
The Eagles (18-7-5, 11-6-1 Hockey East) will play in the Feb. 14 final against the winner of Monday's late game between Harvard and Boston University.
Clemmensen stopped 35 shots to blank the Huskies (11-10-5, 7-6-5) and tie Jack Fitzgerald, who recorded eight shutouts from 1922-25. Jason Braun allowed four goals on 16 shots for Northeastern before he was pulled 12:41 into the second and replaced by Mike Gilhooley, who stopped 12 of 14 shots.
Brian Gionta scored a short-handed goal 3:40 into the game, then Jeff Farkas added another with 2:48 gone in the second period. That's when Kolanos, a freshman, broke out, assisting on Ales Dolinar's goal that made it 3-0 just 1:45 later, and adding three consecutive scores of his own.
The tournament, which started in 1952, puts Boston bragging rights on the line for the area's four biggest college hockey powers on the first two Mondays in February. Boston University has won the last five tournaments, and 22 in all.
