ATLANTA -- Dan Reevesmade the firing of quarterback coach Steve DeBerg official Monday.
"This is something that Steve and I have talked about earlier," Reeves said. "After an evaluation period, we felt it was the right time to make the move. I'm sorry it didn't work out the way we would have liked."
With DeBerg gone, the natural question turned to recently-fired Dallas coach Chan Gailey. Both Reeves and Gailey played at the same high school in Americus, Ga., and both have been friends for nearly 45 years.
Gailey came through Atlanta last week, and Reeves said the two talked about Gailey's opportunities beyond Dallas.
The 46-year-old DeBerg held the job for only one season after an 18-year career as a player, including an improbable stint as the Falcons' No. 2 quarterback during their Super Bowl season in 1998. The Falcons finished this season at 5-11.
