There have been five black women to reach the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. Army, not five in the U.S. military, as published in Saturday and Tuesday editions of The Augusta Chronicle. Three other black women have achieved the one-star general rank while on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, according to the Air Force Public Affairs office at the Department of Defense in Northern Virginia. Another spokesman said the U.S. Marine Corps has had no black female generals.
In a history graphic in Tuesday's Mini Page section of The Chronicle, the year an earthquake struck San Francisco killing hundreds was incorrect. The year was 1906.
The Chronicle regrets the errors.
