I have a copy of the Jan. 14 Augusta Chronicle showing the tree damage along the canal and am glad to finally see something in the paper.
I still think the penalty of only 5-10 days off without pay for cutting down many years of tree growth is not sufficient. What about the supervisor who was supposedly supervising? What about some type of replacement program? What about possibly transplanting the trees located by the ponds on Gordon Highway that have been setting there for quite a while still in burlap? Why not take those and put on the canal?
Or, how about possibly cleaning up the area and installing the trees and some benches and/or picnic tables along the way? The public has gotten a raw deal and someone should be responsible.
