ATLANTA -- America Online's proposed $166 billion acquisition shouldn't alter the operation of Time Warner's three sports teams: baseball's Atlanta Braves, the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers.
"As far as I know, there's no impact," Stan Kasten, the president of the three teams, said Monday after the biggest corporate merger ever was announced.
In a $6.8 billion deal, Time Warner became the owner of the Braves and Hawks when it merged in 1996 with Turner Broadcasting System Inc. The Thrashers started play as an expansion team this season.
"The last merger we had didn't affect anything at all," Kasten said.
