PERTH, Australia -- Thailand secured the final spot in the Hopman Cup field by winning both singles matches in their qualifying match against Japan on Saturday.
After Tamarine Tanasugaran gave Thailand the lead with a 6-1, 6-3 upset over Ai Sugiyama, Paradorn Srichaphan sealed the win by defeating Japan's Takao Suzuki 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
The victory earned Thailand the right to join Australia, the Slovak Republic and Austria in Group B. Thailand will face Australia -- the pre-tournament favorite and defending champion -- on Tuesday.
The United States, South Africa, Belgium and Sweden are in Group A.
