WEDNESDAY

Reference/user librarian Bob Fernekes will lecture on historical and genealogical research in the 21st century at 10 a.m. at the University of South Carolina-Aiken. For details, call the USC-Aiken Office of Continuing Education at 641-3288.

THURSDAY

Aiken International Club will hold its January meeting at 7 p.m. in University of South Carolina-Aiken administration building Room 107. For details, call club President Fred G. Wieland at 641-6875.

The Town and Country Club meets at 9:30 a.m. at the Etherredge Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina-Aiken. The guest speaker will be Allen Sharpe. For details, call 648-5110.

First Baptist Church of North Augusta will hold the monthly meeting of Business by the Book, a motivational lecture and luncheon for local businessmen. The January meeting is scheduled for 11:50 a.m. at the church, 602 Georgia Ave. The meeting is $5 per person, and reservations are required by noon Monday. Call the church at 279-6370 to reserve a seat. Reservations will be billed unless they are canceled by noon Monday.

FRIDAY

Basketball team registration ends for St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church's new 5-on-5 Adult Open League. There is a registration fee of $300 per team. The church is on U.S. Highway 1. For more information about the new league, call Leon at 936-0498.

SATURDAY

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Aiken County Sheriff's Office are offering a free hunter education course at the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service office, 1555 Richland Ave., Aiken. SUNDAY

Aiken Community Playhouse holds open auditions for a March production of How the Other Half Loves at 3 p.m. Auditions also will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the playhouse, located at Price Avenue and Two Notch Road. Bobby Edmonds and Carla Yonce will present a lecture on the history of McCormick County and Willington, S.C., at 3 p.m. at Mims Community Center on South Carolina Highway 81 in Willington.
