Internet site sells NASCAR items

Bruton Smith, chairman and founder of Charlotte-based Speedway Motorsports and Sonic Automotive Inc., has gone online with a Web site called SoldUSA.com.

The service auctions and sells automobiles, NASCAR merchandise and other sports collectibles.

For example, a car driven by Jeff Gordon in 1994 was available Thursday with a reserve price of $105,000. It had received two bids, the top at $100,000.

Smith, a fairly new Internet user, said other companies' online successes piqued his interest. In addition, Speedway Motorsports sells NASCAR merchandise and tickets through its Web sites, while Sonic Automotive Inc. sells 450 to 500 cars a trucks monthly on the Web. SoldUSA.com is a subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports.
