I do not know who is responsible for "picking" the football players to be on the North-South team and the Shrine Bowl team, but in the eyes and minds of Silver Bluff fans a terrible mistake has been made.
Silver Bluff High School has a 13-0 record for the 1999 season. They have played quality schools, not penny-ante teams. They have worked hard and achieved this record and have the potential of being the state 2A champions.
There are not any better running backs in the state than some of the ones at Silver Bluff. We have good blockers on offense. Our defense is second to none. We have some tremendous players at Silver Bluff. Without naming any particular player, we have many individual quality players who qualify for this honor. Why wasn't anyone on the "Bulldog" team chosen for either of these teams?
I know that some people are jealous of the kind of support the athletes at Silver Bluff receive from their fans, but this is no reason to be excluded from the honor of playing on the North-South or Shrine Bowl team.
I and other fans at Silver Bluff are hurt and upset to think that we have the best team in Class 2A in the state and no one was good enough to make these elite teams. It is time someone took a good look at what is going on and put on these teams some players who give their best every Friday night in front of a standing room only crowd. Whether we are playing at home or away does not make any difference to the fans at Silver Bluff and it shouldn't make a difference to the persons picking the players for the North-South team and the Shrine Bowl team.
