S.C. player of the week

Marcus Jones, Silver Bluff, senior, running back

The Performance:

Jones rushed for 145 yards on 13 carries in the Bulldogs' 40-14 win over Gilbert in Class AA's second-round playoff action. The senior scored twice and broke a touchdown run of 67 yards in the first quarter to give Silver Bluff a 14-0 lead early. Aiken's Antwan Smith also had a stellar game, carrying eight times for 173 yards in the Hornets' 42-28 Class AAAA Division II victory over James Island.

Jones has recorded 27 touchdowns in 12 games and leads the Bulldogs in rushing with 1,526 yards, averaging 7 yards a carry. The all-state sprinter led Silver Bluff to an area rushing total of 3,639 yards. Silver Bluff plays host to Hanahan on Friday in third round action. Despite Jones' play for an unbeaten team, he was not selected for either the Shrine Bowl or North-South All-Star games.

Silver Bluff coach Al Lown on Jones:

"He's our go-to guy for a group that has run well all year. It's no secret by now what we're doing. We run the ball and we're going to keep doing it unless I see something different, which I won't."
