Twelve area South Carolina high school football players were selected Tuesday to play in the Dec. 11 North-South All-Star Game at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
North Augusta, Midland Valley and Batesburg-Leesville had two players apiece selected for the 52nd annual game, scheduled for a noon kickoff at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
North Augusta quarterback Anthony Young and offensive lineman Jeremiah Huskins were selected to the North squad along with Blackville-Hilda running back Michael Williams, Williston-Elko linebacker Nick Smalls and Aiken offensive lineman Brent Gibbs. Blackville-Hilda head coach David Berry will be an assistant coach with the North squad.
On the South team, Midland Valley defensive end Dion Simpkins and defensive lineman Eric Weathersbee and Batesburg-Leesville fullback Quinton Langford and defensive lineman Joshua Eargle were named. Strom Thurmond quarterback Antwaun Hillary, Allendale-Fairfax linebacker Cedric Ritter and Barnwell kicker Jay Harvey also made the team. Batesburg-Leesville coach Phil Strickland is a South assistant.
Selections were made by the coaching staffs of the all-star teams based upon nominations by the head coach.
