Georgia player of the week

Justin Gartrell, Washington-Wilkes, junior, running back/defensive back

The Performance:

Gartrell rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown in Friday night's 31-0 win over Monticello. In addition, the junior hauled in two passes for 13 yards to help set up scoring opportunities. Gartrell has rushed for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns this season and his effort helped the Tigers pick up their seventh straight victory. Gartrell put up those kind of numbers Friday night while sharing time with teammate Daccus Turman, who rushed for 119 yards in the Tigers' win.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder also plays baseball for the Tigers. The junior is one of the biggest reasons why the Tigers are ranked eighth in the Class A poll this week.

Washington-Wilkes coach Frank Vohun on Gartrell:

"He plays both sides of the ball for us and he's a great athlete."
