I am amazed a reader wanted Bobby Cox fired.
Here is what the baseball pros say about Mr. Cox:
"It's amazing what they'vedone," Arizona Diamondbacks manager Buck Showalter says. "I know it sounds crazy to say, in light of everything he's accomplished, but to me, there's no question that Bobby Cox is the most underrated manager in the game.
"He's the guy who keeps that team together."
"He's the ultimate," says Greg Maddux, the Braves' four-time Cy Young winner. "It's hard to explain, but when you lose a game, especially when you lose a big game, you feel worse for Bobby than you do yourself.
"I've never felt that way about another manager in my life."
"I think the world of Bobby Cox, we all do," says Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer. "He's not only a hell of a manager, but a hell of a man. I've never heard a bad word about him ever. Ever.
"And you know what? He does it right. People talk about how players can't handle discipline. Well, I think players, especially major league players, like discipline if it's handled right.
"Evidently, Bobby has done it right."
Where did the reader find the definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results? I think the people who talk about baseball and don't know what they are talking about is what really is the definition of insanity.
Yes, there may be some manager out there able to win us the World Series after we got there. But I don't think there are many who can win the league championship given all the handicaps Mr. Cox endured.
