Augusta lost one of its giants with the passing of Denny Leonard. Over the past half century, no person influenced more young men in Augusta than Mr. Leonard. He was able to motivate football players at Aquinas and bring out the best in them. On paper there was no way for Aquinas to be able to compete with Richmond Academy in football, but it did. Mr. Leonard's teams held their own with much larger schools.
After his retirement from Aquinas High School, Coach Leonard turned his efforts to the Youth Development Center. There he was able to reach out to and help troubled youths. He had a gift of communication.
All of Augusta shares this loss.
