ACC: Jones named back of week for fifth time



GREENSBORO -- For the fifth time this season, Virginia's Thomas Jones has been tabbed as the Atlantic Coast Conference's offensive back of the week.

Jones, the nation's leading rusher with a 165.1 yards per game average, ran for 213 yards on 39 carries and two touchdowns in the Cavaliers' 45-38 win over seventh-ranked Georgia Tech on Saturday. It was his third 200-yard game of the season, an ACC record.

Other players receiving weekly honors were Todd Boyle of N.C. State, offensive lineman; Keith Adams of Clemson, defensive lineman; Robert Carswell of Clemson, defensive back; kicker Matthew Burdick of Wake Forest, specialist; and Chris Williams of Virginia, rookie.

Boyle helped N.C. State gain a season-high 504 total yards in the Wolfpack's 30-17 win over Maryland.

Adams had four sacks and six tackles for loss in Clemson's 58-7 win over Duke. Both were team records. Teammate Robert Carswell had two interceptions and seven tackles.

Burdick kicked a career-high four field goals in Wake Forest's 19-3 victory over North Carolina.

Williams, a defensive back, had seven tackles in Virginia's win over Georgia Tech.
