Stallions tryouts Saturday

The Augusta Stallions, the latest addition to the fledgling arenafootball2 league, will hold tryouts at Patriots Park off Columbia Road on Saturday.

Coach Mike Neu said he expects between 150 and 200 athletes to attend the tryout, which has registration beginning at 11 a.m.

"I want to see what kind of talent there is in the area," said Neu, who spent the past two years as offensive coordinator for the Nashville Kats of the Arena Football league. "If we can find some local guys, that's going to help."

The tryout will consist of a series of agility drills, including the 40-yard dash and short shuttle runs. Neu is allowed to sign 30 players for preseason camp, which begins March 24. The Stallions' first game is April 14.

"A lot of the local guys don't have film from when they were at college," aid Neu, who played quarterback for Ball State from 1989-93. "We haven't signed any players yet, but we want to see as many players as we can."

Participants in the tryout must be at least 18 years old. The registration fee is $40, payable by cash or money order. For more information, call 738-9539.
