LILBURN, Ga. -- Mr. Edwin G. Carpenter, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Augusta, with the Rev. Robert Fain officiating.
Mr. Carpenter, a native of Augusta, was a liquor retailer and a Marine veteran of World War II. He served at Saipan, Tinan, Rio-Namur and Iwo Jima. He also served as manager of the American Civilian Association during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fourth Division of the U.S. Marine Corps Association, Jimmie Dyess Chapter 34, the Disabled American Veterans, the Georgia Partners of the Americas, and Survivors of Iwo Jima, and was the treasurer of the Georgia Alcohol Dealers Association. He was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Carpenter; a son, Jim Carpenter; a daughter, Cynthia Leggett; and three grandchildren.
