Mr. William Knowles



Mr. William J. Knowles, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Columbia-Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Poteet Funeral Home, Peach Orchard Road, with Dr. Wofford Caughman officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Knowles, a native of Eatonton, had retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Company. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Green Meadows County Club, Glascock County Historical Society, Richmond County Committee for Progressive Government and Resource Center on Aging. He was a member of Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member of Canaan Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Louise K. Knowles; two sons, Tony Knowles, Augusta, and Tim Knowles, Evans; two sisters, Bobbie Shane and Mable Spear, both of Milledgeville; and a grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Spear, John Hardin, Peter Tjovaras, Pete Upton, Bill Smith, Lonnie Bales, Scott Smith and Fran Florian.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Canaan Sunday School Class and employees of SCE&G.

Memorials may be made to Hill Baptist Church Vision Fund, 2165 Kings Way, Augusta, GA 30904.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
