Defends city Commission hopeful

Re the Sept. 12 letter by James Lett:

This is not fair to Brian Green (candidate for the Augusta Commission in District 4). ... Mr. Green has the right to run as much as he wants as long as he lives in District 4.

Mr. Green shows very good leadership and accountability. He was born in Augusta and attended Lucy C. Laney High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and, after returning home, established a mentor program at East Augusta Middle School. He also helped out the Augusta Youth Development Center every Thursday.

I don't know who Mr. Lett is thinking of voting for in District 4, but what have the other candidates done for the district and why should (the incumbent) stay in office?

Remember your water problems for the past 10 or 15 years? Perhaps if you were to elect Mr. Green he will be able to help solve your problems so you'll be able to take baths and water the lawn.

We need to think before we open our mouths, or write letters to the editor.

Minister Silas Hawkins, Augusta
