I was greatly disturbed Sept. 9 when I opened the Neighbors section. In the middle element each week you publish the list of those convicted of driving under the influence each week.
This morning I counted 206 DUIs, 21 of them under the age of 21 and one of them with an alias. All but one got two days in jail and standard fines with community service and a risk-reduction program in their sentences.
I am disturbed by the volume of DUIs, the number of our youth who are finding alcohol and then driving, and nobody seems to be visibly upset.
Where are the youth getting the alcohol? Why aren't the parents getting some form of punishment and where are the pictures of all of these violators that should be published?
It is evident that our deputies are doing a great job of catching these violators but the numbers are devastating. I lost a daughter three years ago in a DUI accident and ask this community to get involved with this problem.
The void, pain and emotional and economic loss that come because of this is beyond description. We have to get our legislators and judiciary to increase the severity of the penalties to include confiscation of vehicles of repeat offenders. ...
