Xtreme can't be "stuff for teens" without teen-agers. It's like a sports section without athletes.
This year's teen board has its share of athletes, artists and activists. Together they'll help shape the section and take it into the next millennium.
After reviewing more than 150 applications, 35 finalists were chosen and asked to write either an opinion column or a review of a CD, movie, book or TV show. They were given a deadline and limited to 100 words.
From that group, 16 teen-agers were chosen.
Although we can't pick a person from every school, we strive to pick a board that reflects the area's diversity.
Once a month, the teen board meets to talk about what's going in its members' lives: at school, work and play.
Xtreme is more than just hot fashion trends, music and movies. It's about issues important to youth today.
Here's a taste of some of the stories the current teen board has already discussed: how-tos for preparing for college; the cost of being a senior; and interesting internships and summer jobs.
On the lighter side, look for more music you like (especially local bands), great dating tips and movie reviews.
Congratulations to the newest teen board, and thanks to all those who participated in the process.
