NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. Robert Marion Smith, of 203 Springwood Court, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at University Hospital, Augusta.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Gary C. Redding officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith, a native of Greenville County, had retired as a project engineer at the Department of Energy and as a master planner at Fort Gordon. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a member of Iptay. He was a member of the Sheffield Club, American Legion and Acacia Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of the Lions Club and a board member of the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce. He was a member and former deacon, Sunday school director, and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy M. Smith; three sons, J. Scott Smith, North Augusta, S. Keith Smith, Morganton, N.C., and D. Brooks Smith, Gaffney; three brothers, Ed Smith, Newport, R.I., and Wallace Smith and Raymond Smith, both of Greenville; two sisters, Shirley Cline, Simpsonville, and Judy Minton, Greenville; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Couples Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 620 Georgia Ave., North Augusta, SC 29841.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rowland Funeral Home.
