The Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center hosts a lunch cookout for patients, friends, medical personnel, clients, volunteers and staff at 11:30 a.m. at the center's site, 690 Medical Park Drive, across from Aurora Pavilion and the Carolina Cancer Center. University of South Carolina Aiken's continuing education department offers retirement planning workshops at 6:30 p.m. and at the same time Sept. 21, in Room 214 of the Humanities and Social Science Building. Registration for the workshops is $39 per person or $50 per couple.

Learning Disabilities Association of South Carolina's fall conference will begin at the College of Charleston Conference Center in Charleston, S.C. Registration for individuals is $60, for families $125 and for students $25. Charleston's Francis Marion Hotel is offering a discount rate on accommodations for attendees at the conference, which continues Saturday. Area residents can raise money for diabetes research at the Walk For Diabetes from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Riverview Park in North Augusta. To register, call the American Diabetes Association at 828-0420.

A hunter education course offered by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will be held at the Silverton Agricultural Club, 104 Main St., in Jackson. Completion of a DNR hunting education course is required to obtain a hunting license. The course is free, but registration is required; call DNR at (800) 277-4301 for details.
