Riverside Middle School Principal Charles Nagle will be moving to Columbia County's central office as its newest associate superintendent.
Mr. Nagle -- who has been with Columbia County for 10 years -- will be recommended as associate superintendent for student services.
Columbia County schools Superintendent Tommy Price will formally make the recommendation at Tuesday's board meeting.
While Mr. Nagle was not one of the original applicants, Mr. Price said he approached the middle school principal about the position. No action has been taken on who will replace Mr. Nagle at Riverside Middle.
"We really feel like he brought everything to the table," Mr. Price said. "He's got a good reputation with his peers."
Mr. Nagle will act as the hearing officer for student tribunals and will oversee other student services and noninstructional departments such as building and grounds, transportation and food services.
Mr. Nagle said while the position will offer new challenges, it was difficult to leave the school setting.
"I love my contact with children so much," Mr. Nagle said. "For 23 years, if things got bad all I had to do was stop and think about why I was in the business and go find them."
This is the latest move in the reorganization of the central office. Previously, Jonnie Ghetti was moved from assistant superintendent to associate superintendent over instruction and Charles Browning was promoted from technology director to assistant superintendent for instruction.
The associate superintendent for student services is an upgrade of the student services director's position formerly held by Andy Chalker, who has retired.
"I am extremely humbled that I was asked to do this," Mr. Nagle said.
