Defends `independent' in Dist. 81 race

Please accept my response to the July 31 letter, "Blasts candidate over Confederate flag issue."

I have to comment on this letter that "blasted" District 81 House candidate Scott Singer as "dangerous."

First, Mr. Singer is hoping to run as an Independent, not as part of the Republican Party.

Second, it is a far leap to call someone "dangerous" for understanding the position of the National Allegiance for Advancement of Colored People. "Wishy- washy" for hoping a solution can be reached? Obviously, the writer is looking for a quick answer to a complex problem. I want my elected officials to think before they react or commit to a course of action.

I know Mr. Singer as an honest man who donates much of his time to the community and who thinks seriously about his opinions. I am excited about having the opportunity to vote for someone who can think for himself without a party platform. I hope he gets the needed 1,000 signatures to make the run.
