On a Soapbox wins at Belmont

New York -- Jerry Bailey continued his recent domination of Belmont Park's $350,000 Coaching Club American Oaks when he rode On a Soapbox to a 4 1/4 length victory in Saturday's 83rd running of the race.

It was the third time in its last four runnings that Bailey rode the CCAO winner. He took the 1996 running aboard My Flag, then guided Banshee Breeze to her victory last year.

The win was the second in three starts this year for On a Soapbox, a daughter of Mi Cielo from the Stage Door Johnny mare, Makin a Statement. It was also her first stakes win in six lifetime starts.

On a Soapbox covered 1 1/2 miles in 2:29:1 on the fast track to earn $210,000 and return $11.80, $3.20 and $2.10. Dreams Gallore paid $2.30 and $2.10 and Strolling Belle was $2.10 to show.
