I am writing with concern ... that the Congress voted to give most U.S. representatives and senators a 3.4 percent pay raise in January 2000.
How can they vote for themselves like that, and people on disabilities or Social Security get a very low cost-of-living raise?
Do the people in Washington feel that the people do not need a decent raise? The cost of living goes up for those of us on fixed incomes.
These people are put in office by the people ... of all classes.
The military is to get a 4.4 percent, which is well needed for our troops. But what about the people who are on Social Security retirement or disability retirement?
I know this letter will probably not make the paper. But ... people need to know how people in high places got a pay raise that could amount to $4,648 more a year. ...
