Dr. Robert Screws



SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Dr. Robert Screws, 70, of 728 W. Moring St., died Friday, July 23, 1999, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Blankenship and Dr. John Geredes officiating. Burial will be in Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Dr. Screws, a native of Swainsboro, graduated from Swainsboro High School and University of Georgia with a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1968. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Veterinary Medical Association, the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association and the South Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Screws began the Swainsboro Animal Clinic in 1969 and retired in 1999. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Edwards Screws; two daughters, Gail S. Thompson, Swainsboro, and Mariennis S. Flowers, Atlanta; three sisters, Bonnie Wertman, Jacksonville, Fla., Billie Nissle, Jacksonville, and Joanne Holtz, Summertown; a brother, James Screws, Swainsboro; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Peebles Curry Durden Mortuary.
