LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mr. Wayne Jack Hawes, 85, of 1368 Prater Road, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy D. Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hawes, a native of Lincolnton, had retired as a teacher and as assistant principal of West Side High School, and he was a former member of Lincoln County Board of Education. He was a co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Twilight Sewing Plant and a charter member of Twilight Improvement Association.
He was a life member and past president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 597. He was a member and deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Nannie Mae Lewis and Lucy Norman, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lillie Hawes, Lincolnton.
Pallbearers will be members of Bethany Lodge 415.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Friends may call at the residence.
