ATLANTA -- Khalid Khannouchi of Morocco and Elana Meyer of South Africa captured titles in the 10-kilometer Peachtree Road Race on Sunday.
Khannouchi, who lives in Ossining, N.Y., covered the distance in 27 minutes, 45 seconds to capture his second-consecutive victory and improve his time by two seconds.
South Africa's Abner Chipu took third, finishing the race down Peachtree Street in 28:13.
Meyer finished the women's competition in 31:34 to edge out Catherine Ndereba of Kenya by nine seconds.
The wheelchair division was won by Saul Mendoza of Mexico in a time of 19:05. Krige Schabort of Cedartown, Ga., took second with 19:17. Defending champion Franz Nietlspach of Switzerland came in third in 19:39.
The 30th annual event drew applications from more than 70,000 runners, but the field was restricted to 55,000.
