LOS ANGELES -- Barbie is getting called up to the big leagues.
A new line of collector Barbie dolls will wear the home uniforms of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees.
"Major League Baseball Barbie" will hit store shelves by mid-June, said Nancy Zwiers, senior vice president of Barbie Collectibles at Mattel Inc.
Along with authentic logos, pants, jerseys, caps, jackets and athletic shoes, the dolls will include a miniature glove, bat and ball.
The doll was designed to encourage girls to get involved in sports, said Tim Brosnan, of major league baseball's licensing and sponsorship division.
Barbie's 1999 collectible line also will include outfits featuring the WNBA, NASCAR and the Women's World Cup.
