For the first time in Columbia County history, two local teams in two classifications will play for state baseball titles this week.
Harlem will meet Thomasville for the Class AA state championship while Greenbrier will play for its third straight Class AAA state title when it entertains Marist later this week.
The Bulldogs are making their first appearance in a state championship series since 1992. Their last state title came in 1986.
As of Sunday night, neither series' dates nor times had been decided. Under Georgia High School rules, the state championship series must be completed by Saturday.
Harlem's Jimmie Lewis and Thomasville coach Tommy Adcock had talked on Sunday about this week's date and time, but neither was able to come up with an exact time.
Both Lewis and Adcock want to begin the first game of the series at 4 p.m. on either Thursday or Friday in Thomasville.
Greenbrier coach Terry Holder has yet to talk with Marist officials about when their series will begin, but said after Saturday's victory over Newton that he'd like to play the best-of-three series on Friday and Saturday.
