With 15 responses in hand, members of a Columbia County superintendent selection committee narrowed their choices to nine during a meeting Thursday.
"We received 41 requests for applications and 15 completed," school board attorney Jim Blanchard said.
Those 15 came from Iowa, Virginia, California, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, Michigan and Mississippi. The committee received one completed application and resume from Canada. The names of applicants are not being released until the final three are selected.
There was one local candidate, Mr. Blanchard said.
The selection committee was formed earlier this year by school board members. Interim Superintendent Tommy Price was appointed to the job when Tom Dohrmann resigned in November.
Mr. Price -- who has been with Columbia County's school system for 26 years -- has expressed interest in the job.
The county will accept applications postmarked through May 3, Mr. Blanchard said.
Committee members -- which include several community representatives, school system personnel and all school board members -- spent nearly two hours reading resumes, referring to candidates by assigned numbers.
The committee will meetThursday at 4 p.m. at Brookwood Elementary School to make the final three choices.
"This group's charge was to come up with the best three candidates," School Board Chairman Ray Hicks said.
