Twin bill to make up for rainout

The sun was poking through the clouds above Lake Olmstead Stadium late Thursday afternoon, but GreenJackets management knew the worst was yet to come.

One look at the regional radar told the Jackets it could be a long night with another wide band of rain working its way toward Augusta, resulting in the postponement of Thursday night's game between the Jackets and Capital City Bombers.

The game will be made up tonight as part of a doubleheader beginning at 6:05. Under South Atlantic League rules, both will be seven-inning games.

Right-hander Josh Hancock (2-1), Thursday's scheduled starter, will go in Game 1 vs. Capital City left-hander Jason Saenz (3-1).

Game 2 will feature the league's top pitcher in April, Jackets right-hander Justin Duchscherer (3-0, 0.26 ERA) vs. either left-hander Yon German (2-1) or righty Nick Maness (1-1).

The Jackets (10-15) have lost three straight games and seven of their last nine to fall to a tie for last place with Savannah in the Southern Division, 7 1/2 games behind Columbus, while the Bombers (20-7) boast the best record in the SAL and lead Hickory by four games in the Central Division.
