Two Peach Belt Conference teams have reached the Elite Eight, Division II's big dance.
The Lander University men, who made the 48-team Division II field much to Augusta State's displeasure, won the South Atlantic Regional last Saturday. The Senators beat Peach Belt regular-season champion Georgia College & State in the regional semifinals and Winston-Salem State, 47-46, in the final. Augusta State beat Lander twice during the regular season.
Lander (25-6) plays No. 1 seed Kentucky Wesleyan (32-2) tonight at 8:30 in the finale of the quarterfinals at Commonwealth Convention Center in Louisville, Ky.
The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 12:45 p.m., to be televised by CBS (Channel 12 in the Augusta area).
Julius Williams, a 6-foot-4 junior, is a reserve guard from Harlem High.
The Kennesaw State women (28-3) also won the South Atlantic Regional and face North Dakota (28-1) in today's 2 p.m., quarterfinals at Pine Bluff, Ark.
