The big screen

THE DEEP END OF THE OCEAN:

Michelle Pfeiffer produces and stars in this adaptation of Jacquelyn Mitchard's novel (a former book-of-the-month in Oprah's Book Club). When Ms. Pfeiffer's 3-year-old son is kidnapped, her family is devastated. Things really get interesting when he mysteriously reappears years later as a pre-teen.

THE RAGE: CARRIE 2:

In the mood for a good horror flick? You might want to rent the original Carrie, a two-decade-old Stephen King adaptation about an outcast high school girl whose peers finally push her over the edge into insanity. We all know originals are better than sequels, and Mr. King and original director Brian DePalma weren't even involved in this project. But if you have a thing for Home Improvement's Zachery Ty Brian, go see this one.

BABY GENIUSES:

Do babies know the secrets of the universe? Elena Kinder (Kathleen Turner) thinks they do, and she's determined to decipher baby talk to find out. Also stars Christopher Lloyd and lots of really cute tykes.

WING COMMANDER: Teen sensations Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard co-star in this futuristic movie -- set in 2564 -- pitting earthlings against aliens. It's a screen adaptation of the classic PC game.

Movies are tentative releases for Friday and subject to change.
