ATLANTA -- A 6-year-old boy died and nine other people were injured when a police chase of a pickup truck Sunday evening ended in a four-vehicle collision in south Atlanta.
Police said the pickup had been stolen and officers gave chase when it was spotted.
Police spokesman John Quigley said the pickup driver was identified as Arthur Grant, 37, address unknown.
Mr. Grant was charged with vehicular homicide, attempting to elude police, running a red light, driving without a license and other offenses, Mr. Quigley said.
The identities of the boy and the other victims were not released.
The boy died on the operating table at Grady Memorial Hospital, said Dr. Leon Haley, emergency care center medical director.
The boy had been riding in a car with his parents, his 2-year-old sister and his 5-year-old brother, Dr. Haley said. The boy's siblings were hospitalized in stable condition.
Dr. Haley said one man was in critical condition late Sunday and the others were in stable condition, including a 3-week-old girl who was thrown from the truck in the crash and has a broken arm.
