Overtime



SOFTBALL:

USC Aiken's softball team opens its season Thursday, playing Claflin College of Orangeburg at 2:30 p.m. at Pacer Park.

Coach Jerry Snyder, who's in his 12th year at the helm (229-274), has nine returning letterwinners, including seven starters from last year's team which had a 25-34 record.

FOOTBALL:

Two area players will sign college football scholarships today. Greenbrier wide receiver Ryan Bowers plans to sign with Presbyterian this morning, while Washington County offensive lineman Josh Schuler plans to attend Valdosta State.

Bowers is the first football player from Greenbrier to sign a college football scholarship.

TRACK AND FIELD:

Maurice Greene failed to fulfill predictions that he would break his own 60-meter world record in Madrid on Tuesday. He won the event at the annual Jose Maria Cagigal athletics meet in Madrid in a time of 6.49, a tenth of a second off his world record of 6.39 that he set at last year's competition.
