It's money time for South Carolina high school hoopsters.
Region tournaments begin this week for Classes A and AA. The Region 4-A tournament kicks off today at Blackville-Hilda High School with No. 6 Hunter-Kinard-Tyler facing No. 7 Denmark-Olar in girls action at 6 p.m.
No. 7 Wagener-Salley's boys will play either Blackville-Hilda or Williston-Elko at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The fifth seed was still up for grabs Monday night with the Blue Devils (6-12, 4-7) finishing their regular-season by playing host to North. Meanwhile, Wagener-Salley traveled to Blackville-Hilda (7-13, 3-8).
A Williston-Elko victory would secure the fifth seed for the Blue Devils. The Hawks need a victory and a Williston-Elko loss to move into fifth place. The Region 4-A tournament continues Wednesday with four games and concludes Friday with the girls championship at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys' at 8 p.m.
In Region I-A, McCormick's boys and girls have byes until Thursday at Erskine College in Due West, S.C. The Lady Chiefs (14-8, 9-1) will play the winner of today's Dixie-Ridge Spring-Monetta contest at 4 p.m. The Chiefs (19-3, 9-1) will meet the Ridge Spring-Monetta-Ware Shoals winner at 8:30 p.m.
The Region 6-AA Tournament begins on Wednesday at Barnwell High School. The Lady Warhorses (14-8, 6-4) are the third seed and play No. 6 Bamberg-Ehrhardt at 7 p.m. No. 4 Edisto and No. 5 Allendale-Fairfax battle at 7 p.m.
In boys action, No. 4 Silver Bluff (10-8, 4-6) faces No. 5 Allendale-Fairfax (5-22, 2-8) at 5:30 p.m. In the nightcap, No. 3 Edisto plays No. 6 Bamberg-Ehrhardt at 8:30 p.m.
Silver Bluff's girls (10-8, 7-3) will meet the Barnwell-Bamberg-Ehrhardt winner at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Barnwell's boys (23-3, 9-1) will square off with the Silver Bluff/Allendale-Fairfax winner on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
