Jaguars go for Peach Belt title



Augusta State's remarkable season shifts into high gear tonight.

The Jaguars will try to win their first-ever Peach Belt Athletic Conference title outright in their regular season finale at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Ga., at 7:30 p.m. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m.

PBAC North Division champion Augusta State (17-8, 13-2) goes into the game with the best 3-point shooting team in the league with 9.44 3-point field goals made per game on 41 percent shooting.

The South Division champion Bobcats (19-4, 11-3) are the No. 1 team in the South Atlantic Region, but lost at Francis Marion 69-55 on Saturday. Julius Joseph leads the team with 17.1 points a game on 58 percent shooting from the floor.

Augusta State, the No. 10 team in the region, needs a win tonight to enhance its chances of getting a Division II Tournament bid. Bids go out on Feb. 28 as an NCAA Division II Basketball Selection Show will be broadcast via satellite from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Lady Jaguars (12-13, 7-8) have clinched third place in the PBAC North Division and will try to extend their winning streak to five games with a win tonight.
