LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mr. Professor Hawes, 81, of 166 Lincoln Ave., Apt. 209, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Lake Crossing Health Center.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Baptist Church with the Revs. S.T. Thompkins, Robert Walton, Robert L. Crawford and Gold L. Walton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hawes, a native of Wilkes County, had retired as a construction worker from Perkins Construction. He was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church, where he was on the trustee board.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Hawes; a son, Fred L. Hawes, Cedar Hill, Texas; four daughters, Lena Hanson, Augusta, Dorothy Walton, Washington, and Elease Hansbro and Luella Doyle, both of Hephzibah; four brothers, Walter Hawes, Alexander Hawes and Jessie Hawes, all of Lincolnton, and John Hawes, Augusta; a sister, Annie L. Hawes, Lincolnton; and 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Walton, Luther Hanson, Joseph Doyle Sr., Marvin Anderson, Tommie Tate and Curtis Zellars.
Friends may call at the residence or at Norris W. Gunby Sr. Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
