D&S offers home-style meals

It used to just be a delivery business, but now D&S Home Cooked Foods is serving home-style cooking restaurant style.

Located in the former Picadilly Cafeteria at Regency Mall, D&S offers a variety of home-style meats and veggies, said co-owner Angelia Hall. The menu offerings include collard greens, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, barbecue, liver, grilled steaks and chicken.

D&S was founded about a year ago by Samuel J. Lilly IV, who at the time was working as a part-time cook. He and his wife had begun delivering home-cooked dinners to small businesses in February 1997. Last year they expanded their delivery to hospitals, the Savannah River Site and doctors' offices.

Mr. Lilly became business partners with Mrs. Hall and her husband, Freddie, in the summer, and they decided to expand the business.

Mrs. Hall, who used to run a sub sandwich shop in North Augusta, said she had wanted to get back into the restaurant business. She now helps run D&S along with her husband and the Lillys.

"We chose the location because of the space and because all the fixtures were already there in the building," she said of the decision to locate the restaurant in the foundering Regency Mall.

They've been there since November, she said, and business has been good -- and steadily increasing.

The restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
