NEW YORK -- "Monica's Story" was getting rave reviews Tuesday from visitors to the Internet bookstore, Amazon.com. The problem is, the book is not out yet.
"I wrote a review that I made up out of thin air," said Peter Feld, who posted one of three reviews in the customer comments section of the Web site's page on the book.
The 288-page book by British writer Andrew Morton on Monica Lewinsky -- based on exclusive interviews with her -- is due out later this month. Messages left with the publisher, St. Martin's Press, were not returned.
"I did it out of humor and admiration for Monica," said Feld, a 40-year-old Manhattan-based political consultant who was reached by phone while traveling in California.
The reviews of the Lewinsky book will be deleted, said Bill Curry, a spokesperson for the Seattle-based company, the world's largest online bookseller.
Customer comments -- or reviews -- can be sent to Amazon.com electronically and the company does not contact the self-made critics to ensure that they actually read the book, he said.
In his five-star review of Jan. 28, Feld writes: "I though I knew it all, but Monica's Story blew me away."
Two other reviewers, who remained anonymous, also gave the book the maximum five stars.
