Hits scant coverage of celebration 012099 - The Augusta Chronicle

Since 1883, the first day of January has been very significant to African Americans because, at that time, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which decreed that all slaves (should) become free people.

The 126th Emancipation Celebration was held at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Jan. 1; (it) had more than 500 persons in the audience. However, your camera focused on a lot of vacant space in the balcony and one little girl. All of the persons on (the) program delivered very profound messages; yet, your news article consisted of only one sentence.

If there (was) a message (of any nature) to be gotten from your news item, it was lost in your telegraphic news article.
