Mrs. Ruth Izora Newman Swearingen, 87, of 1402 Marks Church Road, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Platt's Funeral Home, Evans, with the Revs. Albert Stroup, Michael Davenport and Hal Hodgens officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.
Mrs. Swearingen, a native of Blythe, was a homemaker. She was a member of Marks Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, president of Women's Missionary Society, Leader of Girl's Auxiliary, Leader of Sunbeams and church hostess.
Survivors include two sons, John R. Swearingen and Joel A. Swearingen, both of Augusta; three daughters, Joy S. Campbell, Blythe, and Gloria S. Bagby and Mary Ruth S. Cosnahan, both of Martinez; a brother, Charles W. Newman, Augusta; and seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Swearingen, Charles Agerton, Clifford Maddox, Ronnie Tullis, Calvin Maddox, Walker Penland, Ronnie Doss and J.C. Stapelton.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Worthwhile Sunday School Class and the Lois Bryan Sunday School Class of the church.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and also at the residence of Gloria S. Bagby, 4583 Oakley Pirkle Road, Martinez.
