Mr. Warren "Red" Lee Stickney, 66, of 3413 Apple Jack Terrace, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Gracewood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald Fearnyhough officiating.
Mr. Stickney, a native of Newbury, Mich., had retired from the Army as a sergeant major. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and the Korean War. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa at Southern Illinois University. He was a member of Promise Keepers and Gracewood United Methodist Church, where he was a member of United Methodist Men.
The family said, "He will be remembered as a family man, wanting nothing more than being with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need."
Survivors include his wife, Helene G. Pochek Stickney; four sons, David Stickney, Harlem, Daniel Stickney and Desmond Stickney, both of Augusta, and Tommy Stickney, Rayle; four daughters, Katherine Stickney Klaus, Rayle, Tammie Stickney and Chance Stickney, both of Augusta, and Angela Stickney, Harlem; an adopted daughter, Theresa Short, Waynesboro; a brother, Herbert Stickney, Eagle River, Alaska; a sister, Audrey Coryell, Munising, Mich.; and nine grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to ALS Association.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, is in charge of arrangements.
