Mr. George I. Carter, 81, of 625 Wright Ave., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Georgia War Veterans Home.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, with the Revs. Tony Christie and David Hixon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.
Mr. Carter, a native of Montmorenci, had retired from The Augusta Chronicle, Lily Tulip Co. and Sizemore Security. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 63. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he was a member of Bagby Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Widener Ready Carter; a son, George Brent Carter, Los Angeles; a daughter, Cleonice Whitaker, Evans; two stepsons, Leon Ready, Ridge Spring, S.C., and Terry Carver, Bath; a stepdaughter, Peggy Ellis, North Augusta; a sister, Mary Owens, Stockbridge, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Andy Brown, Gary Broome, George Toole, Chad Broome, Fred Wilkerson and Manuel Gunter.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bagby Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
